Air conditioners just aren t built like they used to be. So basically you are saying that a central air unit cycling on and off at 4500 watts for 24 hours is going to use more power than two window units drawing 1000 watts cycling on and off for 8 hours or so. Looking for a high quality air conditioner that hopefully will last for a longer amount of time than a few years. I ve used window units in more side opening windows than up and down ones just due to bad luck with houses.

Over the past 6 years or so i have been using three of these lg 8000 btu unit. They work fine just get something to block the top of the window. A small window ac unit uses about 500 watts but a central air unit uses about 4500 watts. I recently moved into a new place and want to install a new ac window unit but the windows are vinyl and have a weather strip that sticks up from the bottom of the frame on the inside.
