Ada requirements for toilet paper dispensers.

Access to the grab bars is an important feature to take into consideration when installing a toilet paper dispenser. Not over an obstruction. Ada guidelines however ansi specifies the dimensions shown in the diagram. In a public bathroom that has stalls at least one must be a standard ada stall.

A a b d b dimensions are shown for grab bars installed with protruding or recessed dispensers. Toilet paper dispensers shall comply with 309 4 and shall be 7 inches 180 mm minimum and 9 inches 230 mm maximum in front of the water closet measured to the centerline of the dispenser. The toilet tissue dispenser must be located on the side wall adjacent to the toilet. If toilet paper dispensers are installed above the side wall grab bar the outlet of the toilet paper dispenser must be 48 inches 1220 mm maximum above the finish floor and the top of the gripping surface of the grab bar must be 33 inches 840 mm minimum and 36 inches 915 mm maximum above the finish floor.

The dispensers should not obstruct grab bars or other toilet mounting aids. Toilet paper dispensers must be mounted at least 36 inches from the back wall and at least 19 inches from the floor to remain reachable to those with disabilities. According to ada requirements toilet tissue dispensers should be installed on the nearest side wall a minimum of 19 inches above the floor and a maximum of 36 inches from the rear wall. All standard stalls must be at least 60 inches wide.

Refer to figure p. The requirements of the actual toilet grab bars and toilet paper dispenser remain essentially the same. The outlet of the dispenser shall be 15 inches 380 mm minimum and 48 inches 1220 mm maximum above the finish floor and shall not be located behind grab bars. They can be located below or above but not behind grab bars though it is important that non recessed dispensers be outside the 12 minimum high clearance above the bar yet not exceed the 48 maximum height measured to the outlet of the dispenser.

However the enclosure walls must meet certain dimensional requirements. Protruding non recessed dispensers must be more than 12 305 mm above or 1 38 mm below or at the end of grab bars. The dispenser must be between 7 180 mm minimum and 9 230 mm maximum in front of the water closet measured to the centerline of the dispenser. When purchasing new dispensers to comply with ada technical requirements make sure reach range and clear floor space requirements are met.

Over 20 25 deep b. Section 604 7 of the 2010 ada standards specify that the outlet of a toilet paper dispenser must be within a range of 15 inches to 48 inches above the finished floor.
