Recording studio it would be worth it to get the bigger a7x.
I too was at the a7 vs a7x crossroads but my deciding factor was the size of my room.
I ve had both and was surprised how good the a5x sounded with a modeller in a small space at low volumes.

I dont like sharp harsh highs.
Again they are very similar great monitors but the x series came off as a little hyped in comparison which is possibly due to the bass ports this is my guess feel free to correct me.
This is my review of the adam a5x studio monitors.
Its open powerful sound makes the a5x a trustworthy and useful tool for multimedia applications as well.

I m ditching my old bx8 s which i ve had forever and came with me from our old house with a much larger music room.

Adding a sub to the room doesn t necessarily mean your mix is going to thump more.
It all depends on how big the room is where you gonna use them if its just a home studio id go with the a5x as it will be easier on the ears as a near field monitor.
I also read that adams sound fatiguing.
The a5x can also be found in numerous home project studios around the world.
The difference is the a5x has a 5 5 inch speaker and the a7x has a 7 inch speaker.
A5 are great for minivan they are.
In the end i opted to return the a5x s and get the a7x s when mf had the a7x s on sale.
